The East London Surf Lifesaving Club was founded in 1937. The club members are responsible for patrolling the Nahoon Beach and give of their time voluntarily to keep the beach, and public swimming areas safe.

Lifesaving plays a vital role in South African communities and is the only sport that is focused around saving lives and requires a community service to compete in the sport.

East London Surf Lifesaving Club is situated on Nahoon Beach at the end of Beach Road in East London.
